Panthers Runners-up At St. Paul

The Fillmore Central golf squad tied for runner-up team honors at the 2017 St. Paul Golf Invite last week.  Aurora cruised to the team title on Thursday, April 20, after carding a 295. The Panthers and Central City both tied with a 342 total. Centura was one stroke back at 343.
Husky Caleb Badura tore up the St. Paul Golf Course with an 18-hole total of 69.  Aurora's Alex Kubik was also at par last week with a 72. Trevor Swartz carded the low round for the Panthers with a 79, which was good enough for fifth place. Garrett Whitley fired a round of 86, which took 13th at St. Paul.
Additional scoring for FC on April 20 was turned in by Tanner Ourada, 88; Shalin Bhakta, 89; and Dakota Wilkins, 92.
"Our team took advantage of good course conditions and a less hazardous course to shoot a team low for the year of 342, which tied for runner-up," FC head coach Mitch Lockhart said. "I am very proud of Trevor Swartz who played a great round of 79.  It is a nice accomplishment to break 80 in competition and his play has consistently improved each time he has competed this year. Garrett Whitley also had a nice round and aside from a few mistakes played well to shoot an 86. I hope we can use this as motivation to remove the mistakes that have been plaguing the team this year.  Aurora had an outstanding day to shoot a 295 and I think our kids took note in order to play that type of golf, you have to play almost completely mistake free."
The 2017 Southern Nebraska Conference Golf Championships will be played on Thursday, May 4, in Geneva at the Hidden Hills Country Club.  Play is slated to begin at 9 a.m. Districts will be contested on May 16.
