Schmidt, Broman, Jacobson Win Events At SNC Championships

Three Fillmore Central girls struck gold at the 2017 Southern Nebraska Conference (SNC) Track and Field Championships.
Alexis Schmidt heaved the shot put 43-feet, 10.5-inches to win the event in Centennial.  The Panther juniors' winning toss is also the farthest throw in the state in all-classes this track season.  Grace Jacobson won the 3,200-meter run on May 1 in a winning time of 12-minutes, 4.63 seconds.  The FC junior also placed second in the 1,600-meter run (5:38.19) and ran a leg on the Panther girls' fourth place 1,600-meter relay.  Other members of the team were Jamey Broman, Sydney Hiatt and Macy Scott.  Broman earned four SNC medals.  The junior speedster won the 200-meter dash in 27.08 seconds and has one of the Top 6 clockings on the season in Class C in this event.  Broman was also third in the 400-meter dash, 62.23 seconds; and second in the long jump, 16-2.25.
The Panthers scored 63 points in Centennial to finish in third place in the team standings.  Heartland was the SNC team champions with 115 points and Wilber-Clatonia was runner-up with 87.
Additional scoring for the FC girls on May 1 came from Avis Koca, 100-meter dash, sixth, 14.03; Scott, 1,600-meter run, fifth, 6:00.41; Lauryn Monteforte, 3,200-meter run, fifth, 14:03.26; Sophia Frook, high jump, sixth, 4-6; and McKenzie Scheil, shot put, sixth, 36-4.50.
