Numbers Growing; Moses Chasing History For Panthers

A brand new practice wrestling facility that's attached to the high school, seven freshmen hitting the mats this year and more than a dozen promising grapplers in the junior high ranks...
Christmas has come early to the Fillmore Central wrestling program.
"We have a very young and inexperienced team this year that is showing a lot of promise for the future," Panther head coach Ryan Komenda said.  "The seven freshman we have out this year are a great foundation for the years to come.  We also have a great group of wrestlers in the junior high, which  means  a lot of wonderful things to come for FC wrestling."
The practice room this year also has the presence of one of the best wrestlers in Panther wrestling history.  Riley Moses is four pins away from 100 career pins and could possibly catch all-time FC pin leader Trevor Adams, who notched 140 career pins. The senior heavyweight also enters this year with 131 career wins.  With luck, Moses could chase down all-time career win leader Luke DeLong, who earned 178 wins at FC.
"Moses will be the anchor of the team with a returning third place finish at State," Komenda said.  "We look for great things from him.  Gavin Hinrichs also returns,  he won an impressive 33 matches as a sophomore and came up a few seconds short at districts.  Stephen Green, Dillon Fushia and Conner Nun all return to the squad.  Tanner Kline is a new addition to the team and shows some great potential."
Freshmen this season are Aidan Trowbridge, Noah Monroe, Bob Smith, Hunter Stewart, Devon Kronhofman, Jared Stephens and Brandt West.
A possible dual line-up could include:  Fushia at 106; Green and Nun at 120-126; Hinrichs at 152; Kline and West at 195-220 and Moses at 285.  Nine of the 13 Panther grapplers are freshmen and sophomores this season.
The season opening invite at Friend was postponed due to poor weather and will be wrestled on Friday, December 21.  FC will travel to Tri County for a quad this Thursday and compete in an invite at Osceola on Saturday.  The Panther's home wrestling invite will take place on Saturday, December 29, in Geneva beginning at 9 a.m.
FC will compete in the C-3 District meet on February 8-9, 2019, at Aquinas Catholic High School in David City.
"It looks to be a very enjoyable and fun year for the Panthers," Komenda said.
