Dog Falls Through Ice, Retrieved

Just after noon on Tuesday, March 12, the Geneva Fire & Rescue Departments were dispatched to the Geneva Boys' Pond with a report of a dog falling through the ice and not being able to get itself out.
Upon arrival, a full-sized black lab was in the middle of the pond where the aerators keep ice from forming.  The local fire department used an inter-tube and ropes to send firemen out onto the ice and retrieve the dog.  The dog and fire personnel were then pulled back using the ropes.
The Geneva Fire & Rescue Departments train on this exact scenario throughout the year, which made for a very quick and safe rescue with the local department volunteers knowing precisely what to do, fire department representatives reported.  This is also a great reminder to citizens to stay off the ice, as it can be a very dangerous situation, Geneva Fire personnel note.
