The celebration and festival season has officially arrived again in Fillmore County with the Village of Milligan celebrating its 24th annual June Jubilee beginning on Friday, June 10. The annual celebration, centered around the outdoor Centennial, continues on Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12.
The weekend’s activities begin at 6 p.m. on Friday with the official opening of the Centennial Garden. Karaoke and a D.J. follow. A co-ed softball tournament also begins at 6 p.m. on June 10.
Saturday is deemed tournament and contest day at the festival. The softball tournament continues and a sand volleyball tournament starts at 9 a.m. on June 11. Cash prizes and free admission to events will be awarded to winning team members in the sand volleyball tournament. To register your team, call 402-759-0421.
The antique tractor pull takes place on Saturday. Little Red Sled rules apply and weigh-in starts at 11 a.m. just west of the Centennial Garden. 1958 models through production tractors weighing from 3,500 pounds to 8,500 pounds will take part in the event. The road rally starts at noon on June 11 with line-up beginning at 11:30 a.m. on main street. The popular pork rib and loin cook-off contest contestants will be cooking all day in the Centennial Garden. Judging is slated to begin at 4 p.m. with a barbecue following at 5 p.m. The barbecue will go on, rain or shine. If inclement weather occurs on Saturday afternoon, the barbecue will take place inside the Milligan Auditorium.
Contests won’t be the only fare on June 11 to enjoy. A chain-saw artist fires up at 11 a.m. on Saturday near the Centennial Garden. The Dave Salmons Trio plays your favorite polkas and waltzes beginning at 3 p.m. in the Centennial Garden. The Omaha-based classic rock band Taxi Driver begins its show at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Admission to the Centennial Garden is reduced on June 11 if you purchase your tickets before 7 p.m.
Sunday is family day at June Jubilee with free admission to the Centennial Garden all day. The Milligan Czech Brass Band begins its set at 3:30 p.m. on June 12 and the Blue River Czechs follow at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Leo Lonnie Orchestra will perform a polka mass on Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The line-up for the popular Milligan June Jubilee Grand Parade starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday in the east portion of the village. This year’s parade, which has the theme “Bring On the Big 10” starts at 1:30 p.m. and winds it way throughout town. Contact Larry Roit at 402-629-4557 for more information.
A kid’s pedal pull starts at 2:30 p.m. in the Centennial Garden and inflatables will be available on main street all afternoon. Some inflatables will be inside the garden. Laser tag and a car race game will also be available, along with a monkey jump on main street. Lawn mower races begin at 3:30 p.m. and the chain-saw artist will again be performing all day with the selling of the newly-carved items taking place at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the inflatables can be purchased in advance at several Milligan businesses. They can also be purchased for individual games or purchased in all-day armbands. A beef supper sponsored by the Sons of the American Legion will begin serving at 4:30 p.m. at the Milligan Legion Building on Sunday.
