Members of the Shickley FFA Chapter attended the 83rd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. This year’s theme was Infinite Potential. The convention went from October 20-23.
Members attending were Nathan Hendrickson, Ben Row, Blake Stengel, Samantha Plock and Megan Swartzendruber. The members arrived on Wednesday and attended the opening session at the Conseco Fieldhouse. The main speaker was Josh Shipp. Shipp hosts the TV show “JUMP SHIPP” and is the author of “The Teen’s Guide to World Domination.”
On Thursday, the group got the chance to go to the Indiana Convention Center and attend workshops. They went to a workshop about organic farming and learned how organic farming is done. There was also a welding workshop and learned that a full-time welder can make up to $28 an hour. They also went to a Jeopardy workshop that was about leadership. There was also a CSI investigation workshop that the group attended.
Later in the day, they had the chance to attend the career show, then we attended the national FFA Talent Review. On Friday, members attended educational tours including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The group got to go on a bus around the race track, and then got to go into the building with the press conference room and the broadcasting room. At the speedway, there was also a museum and they got to look around in that, too.
Members also went to the Indianapolis Downs. Three world records have been broken on this track. The track is only two years old. Thoroughbreds and harness horse racing takes place here. There were 450 TVs on three levels. The group got to go see the stables and where the jockeys stayed.
On Saturday, they attended the American Degree Ceremony in Lucas Oil Stadium. Then, the group loaded up the bus and headed for Lincoln.
