Last Monday, Fillmore Central landed in fourth place in the team standings at the 2015 FC Golf Invite at the Hidden Hills Country Club in rural Geneva. The Panthers combined to card a 381 on April 27. David City was team champions with an impressive score of 330. Sutton was next with a 342 and Cross County came in third at 377.
FC seniors Kyle Bailey and Thomas Norvell both earned individual medals at the invite. Bailey combined rounds of 42 and 44 to card an 86 and place eighth last Monday. Norvell fired rounds of 45 and 46 to card a 91 and place 12th.
Panther Cody Whitehead carded rounds of 52 and 49 in the cool conditions on April 27 for a 101. Matt Loseke combined rounds of 49 and 54 for a 103 and teammate Tanner Ourada shot rounds of 56 and 51 for a 107. The invite was played in mostly sunny conditions with light winds blowing. David City’s Ben Danielson scorched the local course with rounds of 34 and 36 to easily win the invite with a 70.
On Thursday, the Panthers travelled to rural Hastings to take part in the 2015 Hastings St. Cecilia Golf Invite at the Southern Hills Golf Course.
FC was unable to place a golfer in the Top 15 in Hastings. The Panthers combined to score 384 at the 14-team invite. Bishop Neumann were the team champions on April 30 with an impressive total of 321. Grand Island Central Catholic and Thayer Central were both next with a 327. Titan Jay Cottam was the invite champion with a round of 71 (38 and 33).
“It was a beautiful day on a beautiful course,” Panther head coach Mitchell Lockhart said. “Even though, we didn’t bring home any individual medalists, we did improve drastically from previous scores on this particular course. In our returning golfers (four of them), we had more than a 10-stroke average per golfer improvement from last year’s scores in very similar conditions. Thomas Norvell really had a great round and if it had not been for mistakes on two holes, he would have been in the middle of the medalist field. He has showed strong improvements in several areas of his game.”
Norvell fired rounds of 49 and 42 to card a 91 at Southern Hills. Bailey carded rounds of 47 and 41 for a 88 last week, which landed him in 20th position in the powerful field. Loseke used rounds of 49 and 45 to fire a 94 on April 30. Ourada combined rounds of 59 and 52 for a 11. Whitehead put together rounds of 56 and 59 for a 115.
“We look forward to next week with meets at Sutton (May 5) and then SNC (Southern Nebraska Conference Championships) in Henderson on Thursday, May 7,” Lockhart said.
