BDS went 9-12 from the free throw line in OT to get the win over the High Plains Storm 42-38 in an overtime battle in boys basketball Friday, Feb. 11 at Polk.
The score was tied 33-33 after regulation.
“We really hadn’t shot free throws well all night but we hit enough in OT to win it,” said BDS Coach Fred Kluck of the clinching moment.
The Eagles led 10-5 at the end of the first period, went into the locker room up 20-15 at halftime, and then led 28-20 after the third period.
The contest was well-played, with the Eagles committing only 3 turnovers and the Storm committing only 7.
“We were very shaky on the offensive end especially shooting the ball,” said Coach Kluck. “Defensively we didn’t move our feet or communicate very well. All in all we were lucky to escape with a win.”
BDS improved its season mark to 17-4, while High Plains fell to 8-11.
BDS sank 1 of 10 three-pointers and sank 19 of 34 free throw attempts. The Eagles sank 10 of 27 field goals, while High Plains was 7 of 27 from the field. High Plains connected on 5 of 14 three-pointers and hit 9 of 15 from the line.
“Tanner Ahrens really did a nice job on both ends of the court,” Coach Kluck said. “He scored a couple of big baskets for us on offensive rebounds and really helped us defensively when we needed a stop. He works hard every night and it shows up in games like this one.”
