Diamond Rio to perform Friday, July 12; Fillmore County Fair runs July 10-15

A big-time concert headliner and a more of a weekend line-up are among the exciting changes with the 2019 Fillmore County Fair. Country music supergroup Diamond Rio will be playing at the Fillmore County Fairgrounds in Geneva on Friday, July 12. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., on July 12, with opening act “Switchback” taking the stage at 7 p.m. A 5 p.m., Sunday afternoon (July 14) Demo Derby returns to the local fair line-up.
The River City Carnival mid-way will be operating Thursday, July 11, through Sunday, July 14, from 5-11 p.m. A first at the fair this year will be a Baby Back Rib BBQ Cook-off challenge on Saturday, July 13. The contest begins at 8 a.m., and culminates with awards/cash prizes being handed out and a rib feed starting at approximately 5 p.m. Contact Nate Lefever at 402-366-1763 or Mike Brower at 402-759-1040 for more information on this new event.
Thursday, July 11, is Family Night at the fair with activities taking place inside and outside the Ag/Exhibition Hall beginning at 5 p.m. Friday’s events include the presentation of 4-H Awards beginning at 5:30 p.m., (corrected time) in the air-conditioned Ag Hall followed by the annual 4-H Cake Auction. A beer garden will operate on the fairgrounds July 12-14.
Among the things happening on Saturday, July 13, after the BBQ contest begins is a Wine & Beer Tasting event taking place from 5-8 p.m. The Brad Ramp begins playing at 8 p.m. A silent auction will also take place. Events on Sunday, July 14, include a pancake breakfast; church service; dodgeball competition; pedal tractor pull; Pioneer Farm Family Award presentation at 4:30 p.m.; and the Demo Derby following at 5 p.m.
The 4-H and FFA animal shows will have a completely new line-up this year. The 4-H Horse Show will start at 8 a.m., on Wednesday, July 10. The 4-H/FFA Sheep/Goat Show will begin at 8 a.m., on Friday, July 12. The 4-H/FFA Hog Show starts at 8 a.m., on Saturday, July 13. The 4-H Rabbit and Poultry Show is slated to begin at 5 p.m., on Saturday afternoon. The 4-H/FFA Beef Show will start at 9:15 a.m., on Sunday, July 14. The 4-H/FFA Round-robin Showmanship competition will begin at 8 a.m., on Monday, July 15. Exhibitors of the Supreme Market Livestock at this year’s fair will be recognized on Monday prior to the 1 p.m., Livestock Auction.
