In a game that was closer than the final score indicated, the Fillmore Central Panthers were downed by the Gordon-Rushville Mustangs 28-7, on Thursday, Oct. 28 at Geneva.
Fillmore Central was down just six at halftime.
The game was in the first round of the C-1 State Football Playoffs. The Fillmore Central season mark ended at 6-3.
“The Panthers ended their season this past Thursday by getting beat by a very fundamentally sound Mustang team,” said Fillmore Central Coach Ryan Komenda. “They didn’t make many mistakes and always seemed to make a play when they needed to. We have had a very successful season going 6-3. It was a fun and exciting year to coach and watch the team get better each week.”
“Offensively Tanner Leick had 20 carries for 71 yards, which put him over the 1,000 yard mark,” said Coach Komenda. “Tanner finished the year with 181 carries for 1,026 yards. I would also like to recognize the offensive line for its efforts in order for Tanner to accomplish that great milestone. Kyle Kremer had 15 carries for 47 yards. Kyle Karcher was 5-10 passing for 82 yards and a TD. Austin Scott caught the TD for 24 yards and added the extra point. Isaac Bridges, Tanner Leick and Tyler Lightwine each added a reception on the night.”
The Panthers trailed 13-0 after the first quarter, trailed 13-7 after the second period, and then trailed 28-7 after the third period.
“Defensively Luke DeLong had 20 tackles, Trevor Dorhman had a solid game with 14, Tanner Leick added 13, Colin Hoarty had 12, Evan Hubert had 11 and Cole Curtis added 9,” said Coach Komenda.
“The Panther football program appreciated all the support that it received through out the year,” said Coach Komenda.
