“Excellence in Action” was the theme of the annual honors banquet of the Fillmore Central Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America held on April 28, at the high school. The annual banquet recognizes the achievements of the chapter by recognizing deserving members and community patrons.
President Elizabeth Eichelberger delivered the welcome and introduced the special guests present which included past honorary members and community supporters. A variety of appetizers and desserts were then enjoyed.
The awards program began with Adviser Cindy Talley introducing the 2013-1014 retiring officer team: Elizabeth Eichelberger, president; Tyler Loontjer, vice president; Noah Temme, secretary; Nicholas Eichelberger, treasurer; Corrina Hickman, reporter; and Jacob Nutter, historian. The officer parents were also introduced and presented with a certificate of appreciation for all their help throughout the year.
Several individual extra effort awards were distributed to members for their contributions on projects throughout the year. Special senior awards were given to Corrina Hickman and Tyler Loontjer, who were recognized for their involvement in FBLA throughout all four years of high school. Members receiving national recognition included Corrina Hickman, Jacob Nutter and Stephanie Babella, who achieved the Future Level of the Business Achievement Awards.
Next, several major projects were mentioned as highlights of the year by Mrs. Talley. She then introduced the members who earned awards at UNL Competition Day and State Leadership Conference. Jacob Nutter and Sam Hale received a personal copy of the American Enterprise certificate for their contributions in submitting the report which placed sixth at state. Nicholas Eichelberger was recognized as a national qualifier in the Business Calculations event. He will be unable to attend the conference, which will be held in Nashville this summer.
The remainder of the banquet was conducted by the officer team. Corrina Hickman recognized 20 members who earned the Local Quality Member Award. Members must have contributed to the chapter’s success through active participation on at least four committees by earning at least 60 merit points, attending at least four chapter meetings, and volunteering time in the recycling program, concession stand or middle school dance activities.
Tyler Loontjer presented certificates of appreciation to organizations and individuals who have assisted the chapter throughout the year.
Awards were presented to school personnel who have assisted the chapter this year including Andrea Reed, Mary Fessler, Roger Coon, Cherri Thieman, Becky Adkisson, Ben Kaye-Skinner and the Success IV program. Cheryl Myers, Cindy Moyle and the Heartland Bank were recognized for involving chapter members in many projects throughout the year. Mrs. Myers also presented members who had assisted with Save for America with a special award and gift.
Chamber members, Karrie Waldron, Dayle Harlow and Patty Epperson accepted the certificate presented to the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber worked closely with the FBLA throughout the year on six different projects. Lila Oestmann and Kathy Domeier were also recognized for their work with the annual china luncheon.
Jodi Meyer, Chris Gangstad and Jenny Eichelberger received special FBLA Booster Awards and a gift for their support with many projects and supervision throughout the school year.
Nicholas Eichelberger then presented awards to the 2013-2014 Outstanding Members: Stephanie Babella, Keenan Gangstad and Sam Hale. The Overall Outstanding Member Award is based 50 percent on chapter vote and the other 50 percent on participation in local, state and national projects. Corrina Hickman was presented a certificate and plaque as “Overall Outstanding Member” for 2013-2014.
Elizabeth Eichelberger and the other underclassmen officers recognized the graduating seniors, Tyson Bassett, Sam Hale, Corrina Hickman, Tyler Loontjer and Caleb Smith with a special gift and best wishes for a bright future. Noah Temme followed by announcing that senior Tyler Loontjer would receive the $200 Fillmore Central FBLA Scholarship.
The evening’s entertainment consisted of a yearly highlight slide show prepared by reporter Corrina Hickman. The evening ended with the newly-elected 2014-2015 officers being installed in a candlelight ceremony by the retiring officers. Newly-elected officers are Jacob Nutter, president; Stephanie Babella, vice president; Marissa Nun, secretary; Noah Temme, treasurer; Aiwa Temme, reporter; and McKenzie Scheil, historian.
