Fillmore Central FCCLA members Ashley Maciel, Zack Quick, and Chelsea Fessler took part in the District 4 FCCLA STAR competition on January 31. Members must receive either a top gold or top silver award at Districts in order to advance to state competition in April
Competing for Fillmore Central were Ashley Maciel in senior division of the Entrepreneurship event; Zack Quick in Illustrated Talk, junior division; and Chelsea Fessler in Recycle and Redesign, junior division.
Ashley received the top gold in her event and will advance to state competition. Her entrepreneurship project involved the research necessary for the possible development of an interior design business in Geneva. After completing the research, Ashley had to develop a presentation and present it to a panel of judges.
Zack Quick developed an illustrated talk focusing on the role that peer pressure plays in bullying. He presented his talk to the fourth graders at Fillmore Central in December and his project reported on that event. Zack received a silver medal.
Chelsea Fessler developed a recycle and redesign project re-using old horseshoes welded into a lawn ornament that featured her family’s name. This impressive project also had to be assembled and presented to judges on the competition day. Chelsea received a silver medal.
Accompanying their advisor as tab room assistants were Aubrey Adkisson and Shelby Schelkopf. Also assisting from this area were Carol Fessler and Carol Rosenquist, who helped to evaluate other entries in this competition.
State STAR Competition will be held at the State Leadership Conference, which will be held April 7-9, in Lincoln.
