Nebraska Association of County Extension Boards (NACEB) held their annual meeting on February 3 in Lincoln at the Governor’s mansion. One of the highlights of the meeting was lunch with state senators. County Extension Board members, Extension educators and NACEB Board of Directors had the opportunity to visit with senators to advocate for Extension in counties across the state.
NACEB gives four awards yearly for volunteer, young adults, support staff, and business person. These recipients have been vital to the success and continuation of Extension programs.
The NACEB Business Award was given to Geneva State Bank for its outstanding support of UNL Extension programming. The award application recognized John Wilkins, president and CEO of Geneva State Bank and Hugh Wilkins, trust officer and board of director of the bank for supporting employees in their various volunteer roles that help Extension. Bank employees Bryan Dohrman, Alice Tatro, and Bryce Kassik who serve or have served on the Farmers and Ranchers College Board and Jan Stoldorf and Sheila Smith for clerking the Youth Livestock Auction as well as other employees who assist with UNL Extension programming in Fillmore County were recognized.
A complete and successful Extension program takes a lot of collaboration from community members, volunteers, and the support of businesses. By cooperating with one another a lot can be accomplished. Geneva State Bank has always been willing to support Extension through financial support of agricultural and 4-H programs. Not only does this business provide the financial means to conduct educational programs, but they also provide staff assistance with a variety of programs.
