Construction work began last week on State Highway 41, starting at the junction of old U.S. Highway 81 (Road 13) in Geneva and proceeding 12 miles west (to the Clay County line), according to the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR). There is one-way traffic over one of the bridges on Highway 41 already in place.
Werner Construction, Inc., of Hastings has the $3.8 million contract. From Reference Post 11.92 to 23.90, major items of work include culvert work, grading, asphalt overlay, patching, bridge work, sidewalk replacement and seeding.
Phased bridge work will be done with traffic controlled via a lane closure. The remainder of the project will be constructed under traffic with the use of flaggers and a pilot vehicle. The anticipated completion date is November.
The NDOR manager for the project is Tom Anderson of the York office. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously through highway work zones.
