Both sides of the Fairmont American Legion building were standing-room only with additional people seated outside at Saturday’s Live Like Linda benefit for Linda Carroll Zuerlein. A steady line of well wishers shared time with the longtime Fairmont village clerk just as they entered the banquet hall area on August 24. “Isn’t this so nice,” said Zuerlein, as she sat next to her mother, Jean Priefert on Saturday afternoon. “This is the nice thing about small communities.” Zuerlein was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. “You have to accept it and move forward,” she said. “You have a totally new life and a new normal…the old normal is no longer there. I believe you have to have faith and lean on it…lean on it, a lot.” The large turnout surprised no one. As one person in attendance put it, “Fairmont is a good community and likes to do things for good people.” The Bricks Band and two special guest musicians finished the night with music.
