Fillmore County Sheriff Bill Burgess filled a vacancy in his department with a very familiar face.
Tyler Salmon, a 2009 Fillmore Central graduate, joined the department in August of 2014 and completed training and graduated from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center on December 12, 2014. Salmon will help replace the void caused by the retirement of longtime Fillmore County Sheriff’s Department deputy Daryl Callenius.
Salmon completed a stint in the Army National Guard, where he was a mechanic, before returning to work in his hometown.
“I was interested in coming back here and working,” Salmon said. “This opportunity came up and I think its something I can do and be able to be back home.”
Burgess will also be filling a second spot on his roster with another local applicant, as Derek Utemark has joined the local sheriff’s department and began training at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center on January 5.
