Thomsen, Pribyl, Zelenka, Boys’ 4×8 Earn CRC Gold

Exeter-Milligan’s Maitlyn Thomsen was a double gold-medal winner (long jump and 400-meter dash) at the 2015 Crossroads Conference (CRC) Track and Field Meet.  Also winning gold for the Timberwolves on Saturday in Osceola were Amber Pribyl (high jump), Dalton Zelenka (1,600-meter run) and the boys’ 3,200-meter relay squad of Derek Luzum, Zelenka, Jack Dinneen and Sam Zeleny.  This quartet combined to break their own School Record in the event, which was set last year at the 2014 State Track Meet, with a clocking of 8 minutes, 49.1 seconds on May 2.
The E-M girls landed in second in the team standings at the CRC Meet with 81 points, while the Timberwolf boys were fifth with 69 points.  Giltner was the CRC girls’ team champions with 113 points, while the McCool Junction boys laid claim to the CRC top spot with 88 points.  High Plains was a close second (83) and Giltner took third (80).
Thomsen won the long jump with an effort of 15-7 and struck gold in the 400-meter run in 63 seconds.  The E-M senior was also third in both the 200-meter dash (27.7) and the 100-meter hurdles (16.3).  Marietta Purtschert earned three individual CRC medals taking second in the 3,200-meter run (13:28.6) and fifth in both the 1,600-meter run (6:16) and long jump (14-8.5).  Besides her gold in the high jump by clearing 5-0, Pribyl was also fourth in the 800-meter run (2:40) and fifth in the 400-meter dash (65.7).
Timberwolf Kelsey Bigelow placed fourth in the pole vault (8-0) and Madison Horne took fourth in the triple jump (32-1).  The E-M girls 1,600-meter relay placed third on Saturday (4:34.2) and the 400-meter relay (54.8) placed fifth.
Zelenka won the 1,600-meter run in 5:04.7 and placed second in the 3,200-meter run in 11:21.7.  Zeleny was runner-up in the 800-meter run (2:11.5) and sixth in the 1,600-meters (5:25).  Timberwolf Samuele Columbo was third in the triple jump (38-10) and fourth in the long jump (19-8).  Teammate Trystan Brandt just missed gold in the long jump with a runner-up effort of 20-7.25.  Luzum was third in the high jump (5-10) and Dinneen took third in the pole vault (11-0).
The E-M boys 1,600-meter relay squad of Brandt, Cameron White, Luzum and Columbo placed fifth in Osceola with a clocking of 3:50.2.
The E-M girls were third in the team standings at the 2015 Tom White Invite in McCool Junction and the Timberwolf boys were team champions on April 27—edging the host Mustangs 94.5-88.5.
Winning events for E-M in McCool Junction were Maitlyn Thomsen (long jump, 15-6); Amber Pribyl (high jump, 4-11); Trystan Brandt (long jump, 20-8.5); Dusty Axline (100-meter dash, 11.32); boys 3,200-meter relay of Derek Luzum, Dalton Zelenka, Jack Dinneen and Sam Zeleny in 8:56.89; and Zelenka (3,200-meter run, 11:09.69).
Additional top finishes on April 27 for the Timberwolves included Marietta Purtschert, second, long jump; and second, 1,600-meter run; Kelsey Bigelow, second, 800-meter run and third, pole vault; Thomsen, second, 100-meter hurdles; Pribyl, third, 800-meter run; E-M boys’ 1,600-meter relay, third; Trevor Luzum, third, long jump and third, high jump; Axline, second, pole vault; Samuele Columbo, third, triple jump; Brandt, second, 200-meter dash; Zeleny, second, 800-meter run; and Zelenka, second, 1,600-meter run.
