FCEMF Makes District Final
Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan/Friend battled its way to the District finals to end its softball season. The Panthers finished 1-1 in sub-districts and earned a wildcard berth into Districts.
The No. 15 ranking had FCEMF drawing defending State champion Fairbury in District play. The 15-15 Panthers were unable to capture a win against the 24-7 Jeffs.
FCEMF earned a forfeit win over Twin River to begin C-7 Sub-district play in Central City. Next, the Panthers fell to the home team 17-9 after the Bison were able to post a big first inning. FCEMF had played CC to just a 7-6 decision earlier this season.
“Obviously, the first inning put us in a deep hole— one of our biggest challenges this year has been getting that third out to end innings,” Panther head coach Aaron Lauby said. “We could have limited that first inning to three runs but their No. 9 hitter had a big hit down the right field line that contributed huge to that big inning. They didn’t have any holes in their line-up…they found the holes when they put the ball in play and it is so difficult to stop that momentum when it starts. It was Central City’s night, but I’m very pleased with how our girls battled back to make it a full game— we could have been run ruled very early but we are a gritty, tough-minded team that just wants to play.”
