Through the generosity of the Jesse and Earl Wilkins Foundation, five Service Branch granite monuments and the granite Entrance monument were installed at the American Freedom Defenders Veterans Memorial in Fairmont on Thursday, May 14. These beautiful black granite monuments were constructed and set by Wegner Monuments of Central City. Also set on the property were two metal benches donated by families of veterans. Though the Veterans Memorial Board would have liked to have had a Memorial Day event on the property this year, the COVID-19 pandemic has thwarted this from happening. The board encourages people to visit the property over the Memorial Day weekend. If anyone would like a guided tour or has questions, they should contact Mary Lundberg at 402-366-2916 or firstname.lastname@example.org. To make a donation or to purchase a tile, bench or other park feature, please contact Cindy Slocum at Heartland Bank in Fairmont at 402-268-2361 for order forms.
