BDS Drops Pair To C-2 Teams

Bruning-Davenport/Shickley could not get a win against two top tier Class C-2 volleyball teams last week. The 6-2 Eagles fell to undefeated Cross County in straight sets on the road and lost to 7-2 Superior in straight sets on Thursday night at home.
The 4-0 Cougars protected their home court 25-23, 26-24, 25-19 over BDS last Tuesday, September 10.
“In the first two sets, the Lady Eagles led by as many as five points,” BDS head coach Kari Jo Alfs said. “But, we allowed the Cougars to fight back and take the lead. Hopefully, the Eagles learn that they need to finish each set.”
On Parents’ Night, BDS fell to Top 5 state-rated Superior 25-17, 25-16, 25-17, on Thursday, September 12.

“Two competitive teams met on the court tonight,” Alfs said. “The Eagles came out with a lot of fire and we had a lot of young girls step onto the court and do some positive things. Unfortunately, the Eagles made more mistakes then the poised Superior Wildcats.”

BDS is the second seed in this week’s MUDECAS A Division Volleyball Tournament in Beatrice. The Eagles will play 3-4, Class D-2 Falls City Sacred Heart in the first round. Undefeated Diller-Odell, 7-0, Class D-1, is the tourney’s top-seed. The Eagles would face the HTRS/Freeman in the second round. The final is slated for 8 p.m., on Thursday.
