Geneva Business History Website

The website you were told to watch for is almost live and can be found at genevabusinesshistory.com. It is chock full of information about Geneva’s business history from the last 148 years.
The original history committee was comprised of Marilyn Christiancy, Diane Dailey, Mary Sue Fujan, Jo Ann Heath, Faye Rumsey, Gertrude Schneider, Judy Tischer and Carol Vejraska. They physically read old newspapers, took notes, organized their findings, and made binders containing all the business addresses. They also made posters that were displayed around town.
The committee considered turning their research into a book, but the task was too daunting and expensive! The information sat on shelves, in closets and storage units until a year ago, when Diane Heath and Karen Kohler decided that the information was too good and the committee had worked too hard to just let it sit on the shelf. They decided that a website would be the best way to share the information with the community.
Diane and Karen entered information from the binders and posters onto the website and did further research using the library’s digitized newspaper collection when needed.
It is searchable by names, businesses or addresses. There are many great photos included. Any input is welcome. If you have more pictures, additional information or have any questions, you can contact Karen at kkohler69@gmail.com and Diane at dlheath52@hotmail.com.
