Jacobson, Schmidt and Girls 4x400 Win In York

Despite facing the likes of Class B powers Waverly, York, Beatrice and Crete, the Fillmore Central girls produced three event wins at the 2017 Yowell Track Classic.
Panther Grace Jacobson trimmed almost 10 seconds off her winning 1,600-meter time at Tri County to win the event in York in 5 minutes, 26.94 seconds—more than 13 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack. Teammate Alexis Schmidt added almost 2.5 feet to her Dan Tesar Invite Meet Record toss earlier in the week to win the shot put title at the Yowell Classic with a championship heave of 43-feet, 8.25-inches.
Jacobson also teamed up with Jamey Broman, Halle Theis and Macy Scott to win the 1,600-meter relay in 4:16.97—ahead of the chart-topping crew from Waverly.  The Panther girls scored 45 points in York.
Additional medal earners for the FC girls on April 18 were turned in by:  3,200-meter relay squad of Sydney Hiatt, Sydney Schelkopf, Abbey Perten and Sydney Jividen, sixth, 11:41.37; Scott, 1,600-meter run, sixth, 5:54.48; 400-meter relay team of McKenzie Scheil, Avis Koca, Macey Novak and Schelkopf, sixth, 56.41 seconds; Broman, long jump, fourth, 15-7.50; and Scheil, shot put, second, 38-5.25.
The FC boys were unable to earn a medal on Saturday. Waverly was the meet girls champions with 133 points.  York (106) was second and Beatrice took third (76).  The Norris boys were team champions with 118 points.  Waverly (87.5) was second.  York was third and Beatrice was fourth with 85 and 84.5 points, respectively. Crete, Seward and Fairbury also participated in the meet.
The SNC Track & Field Championships are this Saturday at Centennial (Utica).
