BDS Avoids Upset At Lourdes CC

Top-rated Bruning-Davenport/Shickley was forced to overcome injuries to down 1-3 Lourdes Central Catholic 52-26 on Friday night at the Oak Bowl on the grounds of Peru State College.
The Eagles broke on top for a 12-0 lead after one quarter play before the two squads played to a 20-20 draw in the second quarter.  BDS (3-0) led 32-20 at intermission.  Both teams added a third-period touchdown. The Eagles scored twice in the final quarter.
"After both our starting and back-up quarterback got hurt, we were very happy how the band of brothers pulled together to scrape out a win," BDS co-head coach Mark Rotter said.
Eagle linebacker Isaac Kamler was a difference maker for BDS, as the senior returned two interceptions for scores to keep the upset-minded Knights at bay.  Logan Schroeder caught a TD pass for the winners.  Dalton Kleinschmidt rushed for 58 yards and a score for BDS.  John Christensen and Aaron Mick both rushed for a TD.  Christensen logged 86 yards rushing before his injury and Mick toted the rock for 52 yards.  Kameron Dickson had 63 yards receiving and a score.  Justin Stengel hauled in a TD pass.
Kleinschmidt also added a PAT.  Mick logged seven tackles on defense.  Kyle Ardissono had seven tackles, a pass deflection, a blocked punt and an interception.
"We had three sophomores who played very well—Dalton, Aaron and Kyle," Eagle co-head coach Chris Ardissono said.
BDS had 320 total yards in the contest and 12 first downs.  Lourdes CC had 264 total yards and 13 first downs.  Both teams passed for 99 yards.  The Knights had four turnovers compared to one for the Eagles.  BDS was whistled 11 times for 99 yards in penalties.
Eagle Josh Swartzendruber was in on 12 stops.  Dylan Domeier and Kamler made 11 tackles.  Nolan Weber was in on nine tackles and Josiah Kamler made eight stops.
BDS hosts (Wymore) Southern (1-2) this Friday night in Shickley.  It will be Homecoming for Shickley High School.
